Our board of executive officers may comprise up to five members elected for two-year terms and re-election is permitted. The board of executive officers is responsible for the management of our business and our day-to-day operations. Our board of executive officers has the power to perform all acts necessary in the ordinary course of business to conduct our operations, except for those that by statute or the bylaws are exclusive to the shareholders or our board of directors.

Mr. Ilson is our chief executive officer and controlling shareholder. He founded Grupo Mateus in 1986, in the city of Balsas, state of Maranhão. Mr. Ilson completed his primary education and started to work at 12 years of age, as an apprentice. He later became a turner. He worked in gold digging in the 1980s and, with the little money he earned, he invested, persisted and built the largest retail food chain in Brazil with a capital stock that is entirely held by Brazilian shareholders. Mr. Ilson is also a shareholder of Armazém Mateus S.A., Mateus Supermercados, Indústria de Pães e Massas Mateus LTDA. and Rio Balsas Participações e Empreendimentos LTDA.

Mr. Morgado holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Centro Universitário do Maranhão and an MBA in financial management, controllership and audit from FGV. He has decades of experience in raising free and directed funds and in the capital market, including debentures, real estate receivables certificates (certificados de recebíveis imobiliários), or CRIs, and structured transactions, among others. Before becoming the chief financial officer of Supermercado Mateus S.A. in 2015, he worked for almost 34 years at Banco da Amazônia S.A., ten years as regional superintendent.

Mr. Ilton is an executive officer at Eletro Mateus. He did not complete high school and started to work with us in 1997, when we decided to invest in the electronics segment. He was responsible for the implementation of the Eletro Mateus chain. Mr. Ilton does not hold equity interest in companies of our group. He is responsible for the entire management of the electronics segment, taking care of all aspects, from the choice of store locations to the portfolio of products.
